Cairo University (CU) was established in 1908, has 25 Faculties and Institutes covering all areas of knowledge. 3 graduates of CU are Nobel Prize holders: Yasser Arafat, Naguib Mahfouz and Mohamed El-Baradie. CU is ranked among the top 500 Universities globally. Total number of students is over 240000 with an academic staff of more than 11000, 70 % are PhD holders. International Cooperation is one of the priorities stated in the Strategic Plan covering mobility, exchange programmes, joint degrees and collaborative international research projects. Faculty of Engineering (CUFE) was founded in 1816, includes 14 Departments and about 800 faculty members. CUFE has 12000 undergraduate students and 2000 graduate students. The school has 130 among educational, research to community service laboratories. It has a strong internet infrastructure and several computer labs. There are also 15 community service centres that provide consultation toward R&D needs of industry in many engineering fields.

Role in the project

CU will lead the WP Development of Master courses and will perform the following:

  • Assessment study on curricula requirements;
  • Sharing and consolidation of course contents;
  • Preparation of teaching materials for the modules Highway design, Introduction to transportation systems, Fundamentals of pavement analysis, Highway safety fundamentals, and Highway construction;
  • Review of the teaching material;
  • Accreditation of HiT Master course;
  • Selection of teachers to be trained in workshops and webinars;
  • Participation to workshops and webinars;
  • Interview and selection of master students;
  • Master course implementation;
  • Supervision of students’ internship and selection of 3 students which will make internships in the EU labs;
  • Supervision of Master thesis;
  • Quality assurance process;
  • Dissemination and exploitation activities, organising and hosting info days and final road shows;
  • Hosting Inception meeting and participation to PMB meetings and Tempus Representative meeting.
